It is late at night, or very early in the morning. I am lying awake on my right side looking out through the window in front of me. The sidewalk is deserted and the street light casts the shadow of the fire hydrent. I feel alone.
Music is playing softly in the background. It is by the rock band U2 who I have always liked. It feeds my sense of lonliness and makes me think slightly ambivelnt about my partner sleeping with her back towards me.
I am suddenly in her arms and I am aware of the warmth of that embrace. I reach down and touch her smooth ass and she cuddles closer to me. She hears the music, too. She asks me if there is a place we can go to get food.
I respond that I think there is an all night Indiian restaurant. She seems a little disappointed. But it is of little consequence. We both enjoy the music and rise to listen to it.
We are in the back of the apartment where the music is coming from. I mention that although I have liked U2 I prefer their rockier songs to their ballads. I stuggle with the stereo to get a rockier song on. Jessica seems a little impatient with my machinations. Another ballad comes on instead so I give up and return to her embrace. We stand amidst the music deep in each other's love.
I notice the back room has been turned into a den with it's own stereo. I suggest we go in to see if we can get something rockier by U2 there. Jessica smiles a little piquently and demures. I walk down a few steps to a pile of stereo equipment in the middle of the den. I am baffled by this and Jessica laughs.
I wake up.
