Berkeley

I am among the students at the University of California at Berkeley. It is nighttime and we are grouped to prepare a concert, The concert is to take place on two adjacent hills, We are are on a freshly cut lawn in front of the two hills. The are area lights around us the illuminate the table and gentle spot lights upon the hills. The table are hot tables. In other words, tables designed to keep food warm by the use of hot water under whic pans of food are kept, The food will be served cafeteria style. This all in preparation for a concert.

The concert begins and is mostly for young men. The bands play rock and roll of the type popular for that particular audience. The students gobble up the food which consists of mostly meat dishes—roast beef, chicken and pork served up in various sauces, The roast beef is cut straight off the bone. Not a lot of vegetable dishes are served. Green bean casserle is there and more less chosen for by some.

The concert is success, I am every pleased with the results because I am the one who organized it. I am now in a similar position with the responsibility for organizing a concert designed mostly for young women. I tell someone that I know what I am doing because I have done it before for the men. The woman gives me a skeptical look but decides to rely on my abilities anyway. I begin to prepare for the concert.

Like the one before it, all is dark except for the same sort of lighting as before. However the is a center stage upon the lead-up band will play before the main attraction. The table is the same. However the cuisine is different. I tell my staff to fill the trays with mostly vegetable dishes. Like cauliflour, broccoli, carrot and other vegetable preparations. There will be meat , too, but mostly in small pieces prepared in dishes mainly consisting of vegetables. A roast beef will also adorn the table from which slices can be taken. There is some dubious stares from my staff but I am confident that this will work out.

Some relatedly unknown act plays on the center stage but is talented enough to elicit claps and whoops from the mostly female audience. They are seated on the lawn between the tables and the concert areas. Most have brought blankets to sit upon and some those very low folding lawn chairs. The intro band ends its set and the audience waits in anticipation for the main attraction.

With a bit of flair each hill lights up and each has upon one of the Indigo Girls. Their backup band is dimly lit between the two hills. The audience goes wild with a standing ovation as the band begins to play its biggest hits. The concert continues. I am filled with a deep feeling of satisfaction at the success I have enjoyed in organizing these events.

I wake up.

I seem to be having dreams about Berkeley lately. Dreams that involve me in various activities. Like managing a team. Doing technical work. Getting lost on the campus at night. I need to write these down as they happen.

A Poem About Louise

I’m sitting listening to the fires burn. I’m sitting in the sand hearing the sea churn.  I think I’m alone but i know He’s with me.  I think I am blind but He makes me see.  Still I’m in a pool of loneliness.  I all I can think of is your caress.  I turn inside and view my choices.  I hear the chorus of voices.  Each telling me what to do.  But like gulls overhead they  fade away when I think of you.  Then I see God’s face I know I’m in a state of grace.  No matter what may happen I know you will be there too And the harmony will also wash over you.  The fires will burn inside.  And love and God will be our guide.  Peace at last.  All is past.

Pippin

I recently acquired a parrot. I have named him Pippin. He's a Conure, a small parrot about two times the size of a sparrow. He has a green body with a light grey chest marked by dark grey horizontal stripes. He has a long red tail and an orange belly. Although his wings are green there's a splash of blue under them. Here he is sitting on the top of my iPad:

Life After Trump (Part One)

[It's been a while since I last blogged. Sorry to all of you out there who follow me. But I've have had my head deep up my ass during this political season.] I supported Hillary Clint0n since before she even declared her candidacy. When Bernie Sanders decided to challenge her in the primary I was very disappointed. For one thing, he only had one message: All the money is at the top. No kidding. He had a splattering of other domestic ideas like a minimum wage hike. All good progressive ideas. But c'mon man. Did he really think that he could win the primary and even if so did he really think the American people would elect a socialist? All that came of his run is divide the Democratic electorate into so-called "left" and "center-left" camps in which young people would follow him down his rabbit hole and continue to protest up to and through the convention. What a waste of time and resources. There was a lot of talk in the media about how Sanders had ...
